Beauty and It’s Benefits February 6, 2011

Posted by Dunya in Absurd Thoughts.

Beauty. A thin body. Nice, long legs. Big breast. Small waist.

Are they important? We keep telling ourselves no, it’s the inner beauty that counts.

Yeah, right.

Realistically speaking, yes, beauty is important. Very important. Just open the tv. Zap through channels. Gossipgirl. 90210. Pretty Little Liars. It’s not only the television. Look at musicians.  Taylor Swift. Beyonce. Avril Lavigne. Katy Perry. Shakira. Movie actresses. Angelina Jolie. Anne Hathaway. Halle Berry. Scarlet Johansson.

Yes, some of these artists actually have talent. But the reality is that there a lot of very talented artists out there but only little of them actually get the chance that these pretty ladies get. Did you know that Charlize Theron was discovered in a bank, having a fight with the teller? I’m pretty sure she wasn’t shinning with stardom back then, she simply distinguished because she was beautiful.

My lovely readers, this is The Law of Attraction right there. This is the law that our society has created, the law that gives the attractive and beautiful more oppurtunities, more success, better income, and many advantages in our daily lives. It isn’t fair, but it happens each and everyday.

At first I thought it was kind of stupid, but the songs and dances are so good I’m actually brushing aside all my negative thoughts. It’s also kind of my thing to hate on the hip- popular – a la mode or whatever you call it so I was automatically disliking Glee from the second it got popular (I didn’t know about it before it was popular so I wasn’t lovin it or anything). These days I’ve reached a somewhat peaceful state of mind and I’ve realized that it’s absurd to hate on something just because everyone loves it, I mean, what if it’s actually good? It can be actually good. Like Titanic. Titanic is very good. Or, the Beatles. They were pretty popular. They were amazingly good. Best band ever. So yeah, from now on, I’m never judging a book by it’s cover.

YELLOOOOW !!! I’m so happy because my finals are finally over and this week is the last week of the 1st semester. FYI, in Turkey, we only have 2 semesters and a 2 week break in between. So that means i’m done with half of this year (* yayness * , no matter how lame the word might be) and i don’t have school for 2 weeks! (even more yayness)

Welllllllllllll. Since summer’s getting close, the college counselor in my school wants me to plan what i’m going to do in the summer already. I’m going to go a summer school abroad but I can’t decide where. U.S.A.? Canada? U.K.? I’ve already been to U.S.A. last summer and I want to get a taste of other cultures, but…on the other hand, I had a lot of fun in the U.S.A. and in my mind, I feel like I want to go there for college but that just might be because I haven’t seen Canada and U.K. yet. Where do you think I should go? Comment comment! 😛

Sorry for such a short post it’s 1:29 AM right now and I just realized I haven’t made a post in 10 days and I didn’t want you guys to think I abandoned the site again. Ohhh yeah, and also, what do you think about the new design? I’ll probably change it again next week. I like it but the colors kinda don’t match.

What do you thinkkkkkk ? !

Love & Other Drugs January 14, 2011

You meet thousands of people, and then you meet one person… and it changes your life… forever.

Hard-partying, emotionally-detached man meets sensitive, artist woman with fatal disease. They fall in love. They fall out of love. Will man come to his senses? Will woman allow herself to feel love despite downhill course of disease? Will we keep watching this dreck? Will attractive people getting undressed and having sex keep our attention? You know all the answers to these questions, as this film is just a rehash of dozens that came before it.

Where to start…. Even though I went with high expectations, Love & Other Drugs didn’t really satisfy me. Boy meets girl. They surprisingly fall in love. What else is new? The story outline was so obvious that I knew what was going to turn out from the first 5 minutes. Even before that. I knew the whole movie from watching it’s trailor and i’m not even kidding.

Jake Gyllenhaal (incredibly hot, btw) plays this charming shit-head womenizer who just basically fucks every girl who comes along. He is incredibly flirty and no one ever says no to him. Although he seems very confident and sure of himself and so on he actually has a very low self esteem because his father never appreciated him as a child. He even dropped out of Med School for it. He has never said “i love you” to anyone, including his parents, and he can not commit into a relationship.

Okay, first of all, how classic is this?! I’m pretty sure all of you who haven’t watched the movie yet understood what it’s all about already. Charming jerk surprisingly falling in love with the one girl that rejects him… Like, gee, this is even more cliche then the “boy meets girl” stereotype. These days I’m starting to think that charming shit-head jerk boys have became more common then normal boys with feelings. I mean just look at the movies. In most, boys are portrayed as these flirtatious, can’t settle down to one girl, uses everyone for sex, doesn’t do relationships.. blah blah blah.. and of course, in every movie, there is a childhood connection to these problems so they actually make us pity the character.

So anyways, Anne Hathaway plays the love interest of Jake Gyllenhaal. Of course, as the cardinal rule of a modern romantic comedy, she is “different” from any girl Jake has been with. She is cynical, pessimistic and more importantly like Jake, she is deadly scared of committing and relationship because she firmly believes that it’s not going to work out and she’s going to end up being heartbroken.

A very important thing about Anne’s character is that she’s sick with Parkinson. She’s only a level 1, but since there is no cure to Parkinson, her disease is doomed get worse. In her mind, she’s the “diseased girl”, she is needy, pathetic, pitied, hard to take care of, etc. That’s why she tries to be so strong and independent. She can’t commit because she is so desperate to be able to take care of herself, she can’t admit to herself that she needs someone. This is one of the rare parts i liked about this movie because it displays the sick person psychology very well. Another thing that I liked was that the movie was set in 1996, the recent-past. Even though it was only 15 years ago, everything was very different from now and it really made me think. They didn’t have proper cellphones, computers, softwares were just being produced, they didn’t have facebook, they didn’t text eachother, they had just found viagra, prozac wasn’t popular, etc. I was particularly apalled by the fact that they didn’t have INTERNET. Like, i still haven’t fully grasped it. This really made me think in context of how internet changed our lives.

Ahh, i’m inspired now. I’m going to make another post about this.

Oh, I was almost forgetting, if you haven’t figured yourself, Jake and Anne end up together after a dramatic set of ups & downs and at the end realizing that they can’t live without eachother.

Song Review # 1 January 10, 2011

Just The Way You Are – Bruno Mars

And when you smile, the whole world stops and stares for a while

Ok,ok, i know this song is old now.. but believe it or not, i’ve just discovered it. My friends have already lashed me for now knowing it before, i don’t need another set of “wtf?”s thank you. Anyways, to the point… 😀

I just love how it sounds so… earnest. It’s not like other cheesy love songs, “oh i love you your my life” type of bullshit. It feels like he really feels the songs when he sings. It’s not that the lyrics are so deep or anything, in fact, the lyrics are pretty simple and straight to the point. And that’s what i love so much. Simpleness. The production, the music, the lyrics, everything is so simple. Yet it’s the most amazing pop song i’ve heard in awhile. Fresh, clean, beautiful.

You know, i get it, you hear a song on the radio about a 1000 times, you hate it. The song is ruined. I was listening to it in school and everyone was like “That song is soo lame and sappy, i’m sick of it.” Believe me, I KNOW how you feel. I’m usually the one who declares death to all icky love songs. But this song is different, yes, it might be love song, it might be lame, sappy or icky. But it’s genuine. Bruno Mars is simply in love with a girl and wants to sing about it. What’s so bad about that?

If you like Bruno Mars, i also suggest Marry You, The Lazy Song, Count On Me and Runaway Baby. Grenade’s pretty popular these days but i’m not very into it. The beat depresses me.
